What paint do I use for a pressed wood coffee table?

It is particle board covered with a wood laminate. I want it to look like it's stained dark like a rustic wood. Obviously I can't sand and stain it so is there a paint or spray paint that looks like wood or that will make it darker while still showing the grain? I'd even do a paint technique if not too complicated.

wood composite is made from smaller wood particle than particle board and is much stronger and less flexible

The size of the particles - composite is made from wood flour, and particle board is made from fine wood chips (hence its other common name). Either will be as good as the finish that is put on it, and both will droop if overloaded. You can get these boards either foil laminated of veneered, but neither will be as durable as solid timber. IKEA do solid wood versions (eg Leksvik) which would seem your best bet.
