I am getting ready to move out of my apt and into a house. now that I have some leeway with decorating, I'm not sue what color to paint my living room walls. I'm going for a chic, contemporary theme. My couch is a deep red, my end tables and coffee tables are black. The walls now are white, but it makes the room seem empty. I am also going to get a black chair of some sort (any suggestions?), and I have a black and white Audrey Hepburn poster that I would l like to put up. what do you think? Any other suggestions?
play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find something that you like. it is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. I think a blue like "tranquil aqua" (# 7611) is a great color for the living room, and it will look very modern with the red & black.
For the walls I would go with a light shade of gray. Do a white trim around the doors/windows.
For your chair, do a black leather chaise or a chair & ottoman in a print (black as the main color, maybe a red floral print on it).
Try mirrored end tables & a crystal chandelier. Do a big mirror on the wall & your poster. maybe throw in other framed black & whites you have. Use black or silver frames.
Try reading a fung shui book. when I was redoing my room I had the same problems with color and I used a complete idiot's guide to fung shui and it really helped me pick out a color that I could easily live with.
try a deep golden yellow. You could match the curtains with the furniture and walls and then the room would feel more comfortable to you

I would paint one wall (your accent wall) a nice rich coffee color and then the other walls a lighter mocha color. it would go nicely with the red (make it pop!) and if you ever decieded to get new furniture you're not having to repaint since "coffee" is nuetral.
if i had the furniture u have i would paint my walls a light gray or almost a silver tone i think it would accent the red and black perfeectly and if u have a none white carpet or hard wood floors i would get a white area rug to tie everything together.
I like Teal, Aquamarine, Light Green, Baby Blue, Light Purple, etc. Contemporary really goes with the contemporary theme.
