Making your own coffee and end tables from the plywood materials with broken ceramics or tiles is considered as a simple task as a craft project that adds an eclectic beauty and interest into the family room. so how do you create this masterpiece?
For starters, it is important to determine both shape and size of the coffee table. you also need to purchase different building materials from your favorite home development store. Go ahead and ask for assistance here. get them to cut the 3/4 inch wood panel into the size and shape you need if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself.
As for the mosaic tiles, you have a couple of options. the easiest would be to buy them from your favorite home or hobby store. However you can save money and actually be more creative if you like, as my wife calls it, "junking". that means heading out to thrift stores and garage sales. you usually can pick up your pieces there. and if you want to get really creative you can buy old china for almost nothing. Break it and use the pieces for your table top.
All you have to do is lay the wood panel into a flat surface area. Sand both sides, but pay careful attention to the side where the tiles will be. Don't forget to sand the legs too, then wipe the surface clean with a damp cloth.
Apply some stain onto the cleaned surface and sanded area. allow the stain to dry out and apply second coating if necessary, especially on the legs. Drill on the pilot holes for screws on the table legs. these holes will make it much easier when you start inserting screws in the wood panel. Just attach the coffee to the table and allow the coffee and end tables to stand in an upright manner.
Place the ceramic objects into the plastic bag and wrap the bag with a towel. Tap on the objects with a hammer in order of break out the pieces for the mosaic. Spread out smaller amount of thinset into top portion of the coffee table with a trowel. Press on the bits of ceramics onto thinset. Just work in small sections until everything is completely covered - both the side and top portions if you'd like.
Allow the adhesive to dry. then, spread the grout into crevices in between ceramic pieces with grout floats. Just remove any of the grout from surface area with warm water and a sponge before it dries out. the final step is to use a grout sealer after everything dries. this will protect your coffee and end tables from moisture.
The end result is not only functional coffee and end tables for your home, but conversation pieces that will be talked about by all your guests.
