Chinese apartment new paint scheme?

I want to stick with a Chinese art, culture, style, and color. Currently I have a black leather couch, and chair (Ikea) and coffee table and end tables.

Just need to know where i can get inspiration for color schemes and design layouts. I need to know what colors would look best and how to coodinate them in traditional chinese style.

All i know so far is reds, but my apartment complex might not allow it since it's soo bright, but i'm going to do it anyway.

all suggestions from chinese heritage and culture appreciated, reason being my chinese better half needs a surprise!

use a dark red and paint big gold chinese symbols on the top

I would have some Chinese wall hangings for sure. The black characters would match your sofa and are very traditional. you can pick up the yellows and the reds in these types of accent pieces. Jade is also found in Chinese homes and I would pay attention to Fungshei (spelling?). Finally, flowering plants are very popular during Chinese new year as are fish (good luck). have fun.

Here is a heap of Asian artwork that you could choose:

I'm not sure exactly which ones are Chinese & which are Japanese or other Asian cultures, but you might be able to do a little research on the artists for that information.

Feng Shui uses all types of color in decorating, each representing a different element in nature:
Water = all shades of blue or black
Wood = all shades of green
Fire = red, maroon, burgundy, hot pink, etc.
Earth = orange, yellow, brown (from light to dark)
Metal = white, silver, gray, gold

So you might go to the library & get a book on Feng Shui & choose your colors with that.
