I'm moving from Upstate NY to Dallas. I'm selling the majority of my stuff, including my car. I will need to move a large storage ottoman (coffee table size), a chair, 4-5 large boxes, my clothes, and possibly a double mattress set (although I might just sell that, too). the smallest U-haul truck would be at least $2,000 once you factor in gas, and renting a trailer isn't an option since I won't have a car. Anyone know of any less expensive ways to do it, or am I stuck with the U-haul?
I would sell your large storage ottoman, chair, mattress set, and everything else possible. Ship the boxes you need to send via Fed ex. Buy used stuff at garage sales, on craigslist.com, or on school boards when I get there. Don't underestimate what you can sell and re-buy using craigslist, the newspapers, school boards, and garage sales.
Good Luck
Contact your local freight company (one of them is ConWay) ask for rate.
that means you must pack & label all items, they will come in with a large truck and pick it up, either to their depot in Dallas, or deliver to your address.
Yellow pages of Truckings, Freight, Shipping will help.
Drop by any company Shipping & Receiving ask them for how to get hold at the trucking companies in your area.
