Can I spray paint the fabric on a sling back patio chair?

I had a nice patio set with beige colored chairs and a glass top table for the patio. the wind blew the table over and shattered the glass so we bought a black wrought iron table to replace it. Now the chairs don't look horrible but would like them to match. I am trying to avoid buying wrought iron chairs and adding these chairs to the dump. the fabric is breathable so I thought maybe I could spray paint it? Would the paint go through, I could try to tape it off, just think that would be hard to get it perfect. I could paint the table to match instead but kind of like the black look. Thanks!

As a seamstress and an Interior Decorator, I specialize in fabric elements of indoor and outdoor spaces. I can tell you that spray painting fabric will be unsuccessful. Spray paint may look good, at first, but will not stand up to the test of time. Fabrics expand and contract with temperature changes and hold moisture, all elements that are enemies of painted surfaces.

If you can remove the fabric from the furniture, you may be able to dye the fabric with fabric dye. However, I suspect that your outdoor fabric is somewhat water resistant, which would make it so the dye will not adhere to the fibers.

Having all of that been said, you may need to either replace the fabric to your liking or maybe just paint the frame of the chairs to match the table or vice versa.

Depending on how imaginative you are, you may be able to make some sort of pattern or design on the existing fabric with permanent markers or concentrated dye. it could be a bit risky but if you have nothing to lose, you could use powdered Kool-Aid or powered Jello for dye if you are willing to experiment..

you dont need any special licence to be an interior decorator.... just experience if you want to get paid for it.... so many people do it for free that not too many people will pay for the service.... its really hard to get paid for decorating....

These sites should tell you what you need to know. Though notice the difference between an interior decorator and interior designer and know that licensing laws and requirements vary from state to state.
